What colours I think work and why

Obviously you can see that this is the Pepsi logo. I think that these colours work because the red is a hot colour and then the white is a boarder between that and the blue, which is a cold colour. It looks nice because the colours are spaced out where as if the white wasn't there to space them out it wouldn't look as nice as it already does. Even though the colours don't complement each other it still looks nice because they are opposites with being hot and cold.
I also think the Barcelona football strip colours work good together with the maroon and the dark blue, they are two darker colours and they both work really well together.

This logo on the other hand is a very bad logo in my opinion even though the colours are almost complimentary they are really bad together, and the logo itself just looks awful it's just a badly drawn tick with a simple text style. There are some logos and posters etc where cyan and red are good together but this is not one of them.

There are two types of colours, primary and secondary. Primary colours are red blue and yellow. Secondary colours are made from combining two primary colours together E.G. red and blue make purple.

Using Colours

When I have been making my logos and websites, I haven't been using the best colours to go together so would say. Personally I think they look fine but it's all a matter of opinion.

This is the colour wheel, what a lot of people say is that the colours opposite of each other always work together, E.G. Purple and Yellow, L.A Lakers basketball team, those colours work perfectly together, the same with blue and orange E.G. Irn-Bru. I think they work together but green and red, I only think they work together with certain things. I will also be talking about two different colour processors, one being RGB and the other being CMYK. RGB is Red, Yellow, Blue and this is used on computers to make an image that isn't going to be printed off so making a logo in Photoshop will be saved as RGB where as if you wanted to make an image that would be printed off, you would use CMYK and this stands for cyan, magenta, yellow, key.
A colour model that describes each colour in terms of thequantity of each secondary colour (cyan, magenta, yellow), and"key" (black) it contains. The CMYK system is used for printing.For mixing of pigments, it is better to use the secondary colours,since they mix subtractively instead of additively. The secondarycolours of light are cyan, magenta and yellow, which correspondto the primary colours of pigment (blue, red and yellow). In addition, although black could be obtained by mixing these threein equal proportions, in four-colour printing it always has its ownink. This gives the CMYK model. The K stands for "Key' or 'blacK,'so as not to cause confusion with the B in RGB
Alternative colour models are RGB and HSB. I now understand how to mix and blend colours and I will be showing this with the next logo that i make.

Business Card

Today I designed a business card for my website in Photoshop. This was a simple task to do as it is a very basic design.

This is the front of my business card, it's just the logo of my website.

This is the back of my business card, it's got my phone number and the name of the website.

CMS

Today I did a small CSS test to see what I am good at and to see what I need to make improvements on. It hasn't been marked yet so I am awating  my results. Now I am downloading a piece of software called Concrete5 and this is the CMS. This allows me to edit my websites from any location so rather than using the mac at work I can edit it from my home using my laptop. This is because all of the files are on the internet rather than just the computer.

Logo Design

Today I was designing logos for various companies through a website called Designcrowd. This is a website that allows me to design websites, logos, flyers etc for people who need them. I learned how to use Adobe Illustrator and how I can edit images to make them my own. I will be continuing with my work on Monday 16th January.

Be able to use digital communication techniques

It's one thing being able to understand what digital communication is but being able to use it is another. It is very easy to use as everyone uses it in some way or another. A good example is right here with this E-mail.

Messaging services that were widely used in the past such as MSN messenger are forms of instant messaging services, they are called that well simply because you send a message and it is instantly sent to the recipient. This blog is a form of digital communication. Facebook pages are also forms of digital communication, they are very easy to use I have a page of my own for my website and you can see it right here:

When using a mobile phone you are digitally communicating with people. When you phone them you are having a one on one conversation. On some phones you can ring multiple recipients at the same time, this is called audio conferencing, it is mainly used on Skype, a piece of software for both computers and phones now, you can video call people and instant message them if they don't own a web camera. Games consoles are also forms of digital communication. When you go onto Xbox live, you are connected to the internet and you can then play online with others, you can that to them via wired or wireless headsets.

Understanding digital communication systems

There are many forms of digital communication, the world wide web (www.) is a form of digital communication, wireless access is also another form of digital communication e.g. a wireless headset on and Xbox or Playstation 3, you use that to communicate with others. Third generation is a form of digital communication (3G) found on most modern phones now. Sending text messages (SMS) and picture messages (MMS) are both forms of digital communication. An Internet Service Provider (ISP) is a form of digital communication, ISP's are companies who provide access to the internet. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr etc are all forms digital communication, these are called social networking sites or Web 2.0 communities. Anything that you do which requires technology is classed as digital communication, websites, phone calls, texts, E-mails, video calls, etc.

One Page Website Mark up validation

I have managed to correct most of my errors with my website. The two errors that I have left can't be fixed. This is due to the host I have, with me using 000webhost no matter how I try to correct my website it won't go right. The website works fine but if you happen to use 000webhost then you won't be able to get the validation stamp.

One page website V3c Validator

This is when I tested out my website and I found these errors, I must fix these ASAP

One Page Website Digital Communication

Okay so now you are ready to make your website go live, to do this you first need to make an account for 000webhost.com this is your hosting point. You also need to download Filezilla. This piece of software allows you to transfer your data from your computer to the website. That sounds confusing but it's simple. Once you have made your account with 000webhost, you need to get your log in details by clicking on members area. Now go onto Filezilla and enter all the details at the top and just a quick note, the port number is always 21.

The box on the left is what is on your computer and the box on the right is what is on your website. You have got to transfer everything that is on your website to the website box, everything else is useless and you don't need it. When I say everything, I mean pictures, fonts, stylesheets, the whole lot! When you have transferred everything over, you should be able to go onto your browser and type up your website and it should work.

One page website Digital Communication

Once I had the idea of what I wanted to base my website on I started to create it in Dreamweaver, the reason I used Dreamweaver is because it's the software that I was taught how to use and I found it easy to use. As I said in my previous blog, I changed my website about when I started creating it in Dreamweaver.

As you can see here, I used the same layout as the design in Photoshop but changed things around slightly E.G. instead of top 10 videos this week, I just have a top video this week, it looks a lot cleaner and it's so much easier to do. I tried to use as little images as possible considering I already have a video in there which will take time to load itself. The images are just copied and pasted from Photoshop, I bet your wondering how to put a video into your own website, well I will show you. First of all you need to choose a video from YouTube which you want to use, that's simple enough. Next to the "like" and "dislike" buttons you will see another button called "Share" click this, then click "Embed" then copy the text that comes up.

As you can see, it's easy enough to do once you know what you are doing. Now we need to get this on Dreamweaver so that it will come up on your website. Again I will show you how this is done. You already have the code copied so make sure you don't copy anything else. Go into Dreamweaver and open up your website. At the top left hand side of the page click "Split".

Once you have clicked this you will see a load of coding, this is what makes up the website. You need to chose where you want the video to go, as you can see by looking at my image, the big gray patch is where I placed my video. When you copy the code from YouTube, it will have it's own width and height, you can change this so that it suits your website. to do this I recommend that you click on the gray patch and it will automatically highlight the video code that way you can see what you want to change. A quick note, don't worry when your video doesn't show up on Dreamweaver, just click preview and it will be there.

Now you will want a text style for your website because lets be honest nobody wants to see a plain, boring website with boring "Ariel" font style. To start off you need to download a font you think is good from  www.dafont.com. Just because you have downloaded the font doesn't mean that it will work on your website, what you must do now is go to another website called www.fontsquirrel.com. When you are at that website you must click on @font-face generator and then add the font you downloaded from dafont. We still aren't done yet what must be done now is critical. once you have downloaded the kit from font squirrel you will open it and it will be named (font name.css) when you open it, change it to how you want it to look on your website E.G. the sizes of the text and the colour. When you have changed that you save it to your area/folder and it must be saved as .css it can be called anything you want to call it but after that it must be .css E.G. stylesheet.css. Once that has been done, you need to attach the style sheet to your website and that is very simple to do, you click on the text you wish to apply the style sheet to and then at the bottom of the page you click on class then attach from the drop down menu.

Again this won't show up on your Dreamweaver page but like the video, if you preview the website it will show up. When you finally save your work make sure that it is saved as index.HTML and make sure that the I is in low case.

One Page Website Digital Communication

I started off making my one page website by following tutorials on YouTube to get used to the software I used, which is called Dreamweaver and Photoshop. The reason I used Photoshop was so that i could plan out my website, I basically used it as a template for what I wanted my website to look like. This is what I first came up with:

That was just a first attempt to get myself used to using the software and to see what my design would look like. I used photoshop a lot for making my website, it was a key piece of software. At first I liked it, but then i realised when making that on Dreamweaver to get everything the way it is E.G the video sizes and the images would take a lot of time and couldn't be done with my current level of skill so I made a few modifications when i went onto Dreamweaver.
